Construction Delays

Norwich Township's new administration building is set to come in at or below budget despite delays.

OTTERVILLE - It doesn't appear the new Norwich Administration office will be open by the time the new council holds their first meeting in December.

"We are still well within budget and I don't see us deviating from that because we have gotten through all of the really contentious probably difficult areas of the foundation and all that type of thing," said Director of Finance of the Township, Michael Legge. "We are well within budget and I don't see us deviating from that so we might actually have some savings at the end of the day."

Legge says despite their hopes, the first meeting with the new council will have to be held at the old Otterville office.

"We were hoping to move probably the end of November, we now have a moving date of December 19 set. Between weather and keeping trades on site there a bit, we have gotten delayed probably almost to a full month."

The new building will not impact the taxpayers at all as money has been put aside for nearly a decade to complete the project.

Legge says the Township is in no hurry to sell off their old Otterville office.

"We have deliberately done nothing about it. We wanted to wait and get out and declare it surplus and move forward from there. With Otterville the way it is, we are hoping and waiting probably for the right developer to come along. We don't want just more housing in the area, we would like to see something to reverberate the community."

Legge says the Otterville building was originally built for 5-6 people but is currently housing 15.
