Matching quarter donation for Food for Friends rolls up a big number
Woodstock residents continue to show their generosity and support for those less fortunate.
The Woodstock Foodland and Sobey's handed over their latest cheque to Operation Sharing on Thursday, as part of their Thanksgiving program they ran last month.
Chairman of the Board of Directors for Operation Sharing Mark McLennan says, "The cheque we just received was for well over $12,000. So our own Woodstock citizens has contributed well over $7000, and the Sobey's corporate company donated $5000."
Sobey's corporate office matched customer donations to Food for Friends at the till for 2-week leading up to Thanksgiving, up to $5000.
Food for Friends is a program which gives out gift cards to those less fortunate to use at local grocery stores to purchase fresh foods.
Owner/Operator of Woodstock Foodland Chris Chapman tells Heart FM the success of the program is all because of the residents of Woodstock. "They're generous. We really, really appreciate that. We're more than happy to match those donations to make it that much more effective. This is the time of year where you hate to see anybody in our community not have a proper table at Thanksgiving and Christmas."
The grand total from the drive was $12,287.52.
