OXFORD COUNTY - A special committee has been formed to oversee the merger between Oxford County Public Health and Elgin St. Thomas Public Health.
The Transition Governance Committee consists of five members, with County Councillor Sandra Talbot and Warden David Mayberry representing Oxford. Bernie Wiehle, the Chair of the Elgin St. Thomas Board of Health is also a member alongside Vice Chair Heather Jackson. Lee Rowden will represent the Government of Ontario.
Talbot says they will develop new policies while making sure the whole merger goes smoothly.
"We'll be looking at the establishment of it, the parameters that will be working within and now the transfer will actually take place."
Talbot will also bring some experience to the table.
"I've been on the Board of Health before when we used to do boards and committees, so it wouldn't be my first go around."
The committee will disband once the merger takes place on May 1st of this year. A permanent Board of Health will then take charge; with four representatives from Oxford, two from Elgin and another two from St Thomas.
