Phase one of the Brick Ponds wetlands restoration is about 95 percent complete and phase two is about to get underway.
OXFORD COUNTY - Woodstock City Council was given an update on the Brick Ponds wetlands on Thursday.
Philip Holst from Ducks Unlimited Canada was on hand to give the latest update.
"The conservation partnership with the City of Woodstock and contributors continues to be successfully transforming the Brick Ponds wetlands, one of Canada's largest urban wetlands from a degraded 80 acres back to a highly functioning wetland environment that also performs as a flood mitigation type of natural infrastructure."
He says says phase one is 95 percent completed on the west half.
"Thank you for your financial support to develop a section of trail that will include a lookout deck, providing public access with limited disturbance to wildlife. Woodstock Parks have been exceptional in their willingness and ability to assist."
Holst says phase two is about to start, which will incorporate the 40 acres east of the Springbank overpass.
"The proposed conservation work would include some wetland restoration, reforestation, tall stock tree planting along with wildlife shrubs, pollinate and tall grass prairie planting and more."
Woodstock City Council voted to continue supporting the Brick Ponds wetlands enhancement concept in principle.
