Changes to South-West Oxford Collection Schedule

South-West Oxford will be moving to a six day collection schedule after a unanimous vote from Oxford County Council.

SOUTH-WEST OXFORD - Garbage and recycling pick-up in South-West Oxford will move to a six day collection schedule after Oxford County Council vote unanimously to allow SWO to be exempt from the 5 day system currently adopted by the County. Oxford County Warden and South-West Oxford Mayor David Mayberry explained the new system.

"...two things will happen; first of all people will get their garbage pick-up every six working days and the other thing that will happen is that we will be encouraging the residents of South-West Oxford particularly as will the rest of the County to look at more things like composting and taking as much responsibility as they can so we can be less dependent on landfills." 

Mayberry said South-West Oxford produces less garbage and recycling waste and as a result doesn't necessitate 5 day pick-up.

"When County Council decided that they wanted to go to a five day system-- that they weren't quite comfortable moving to a six day system yet, our council said no they would still like to do it (the six day system) and they would like to ask permission of the County to do it as a trial as a demonstration to the rest of the County."

The new system will likely cause some confusion amongst residents. That is one thing Mayberry expects to be one of the bigger challenges.
