Warden Marcus Ryan says that the cost connected to recycling services will be passed to producers of single-use plastic.
OXFORD COUNTY - Taxpayers in Oxford could be seeing a change to the county's recycling services.
Ontario will soon roll out a new recycling program throughout the province that will pass the financial burden of recycling services. Changes to the program are expected to take place in January 2026.
Warden Marcus Ryan says that the cost connected to recycling services will be passed to producers of single-use plastic.
"Municipalities will not be responsible for collecting blue box material. Now that doesn't necessarily mean we aren't going to collect it, it's still two years away and it hasn't been decided. But it will be the financial and system responsibility of producers."
He adds that with the change there is potential for the County to save up to $2-million per tax year with the new system, but that there are still a lot of details to iron out before they can be sure what it will look like for residents.
