Come October, the Canadian Auto Workers will be without President Ken Lewenza. Late last week Lewenza announced he will be stepping down from the position he has held since 2008. CAW Local 88 President Dan Borthwick says while Lewenza will be missed, the CAW has a long history of appointing great leaders. "We will move forward and the new leaders will make a new direction and come with new ideas and we will move forward and still be able to challenge the issues that working people face in Canada over the next few years." Dan Borthwick says Ken was always very open to ideas. "He always gave his opinion on different issues of the day. Again he was very supportive of workers in any industry and all workers in Canada." "Ken has been a strong voice not only for the CAW but for working men and women in Canada." The move comes as the CAW merges with Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada creating a new combined union called Unifor which will be headed up by senior CAW official Jerry Dias.
