City Council plans to vest the property to avoid lawsuits should owners return
WOODSTOCK- Who knew the Capital Theatre could cost so much?
The abandoned theatre had a roof caving in and was filled with asbestos when the city took it over after it was abandoned.
Nearly 1 million dollars in taxes accumulated, which includes the cost of demolition and asbestos removal.
Woodstock councillor Bill Bess says the building posed more of a problem than just being an eye sore,"...it could be a very potential hazard, any kid going in there and playing and getting hurt, stuff like that."
Due to the amount of money owing the tender amount was not a financially attractive option for buyers. As a result, Woodstock City Council approved a plan to vest the property to avoid lawsuits should the owners return.
