The Woodstock Police Communications Centre was evacuated over the weekend. Police say an over-heated pack-up power supply caused a transformer to burn, sending an offensive odour through the communication centre that handles 911 calls. The call dispatchers reported discomfort in their eyes and throats, and were forced to evacuate at around 8 o'clock Sunday night. They shuffled over to the back-up operations centre at the Woodstock Fire Hall until around 4 o'clock Monday morning. Police say the good news is, there was no disruption of service to the 911 system, despite their own minor emergency. Police called the transition "seamless and routine".
