UPDATE: Burn Ban Lifted for Zorra Township

Zorra Township has lifted the burn ban that had been in place for nearly a week.

UPDATE (1:20 pm): Zorra Township has an update regarding the most recent burn ban.

The ban was lifted this afternoon after extreme fire risks in or near Zorra on August 10th, 11th, and 12th.

Zorra Fire Rescue is restoring burn permits due to the hazard of fallen brush becoming a fire risk.  The Township has provided an outline on what you need to follow if you are having a fire, which includes having a method of extinguishment nearby and separating your burn piles from other fuel sources by a non-combustible perimeter.

While the area did see recent rainfall, the Fire Rescue is reminding the public to use extreme caution when burning.

ZORRA TOWNSHIP - The Township of Zorra has issued a burn ban, effective immediately.

Due to the extremely hot and dry weather conditions with persistent smog, all open-air burning will be prohibited until further notice.

The on-air burning ban will:

  • Suspends all existing Burn Permits
  • Prohibits all recreational fires except for those for cooking, and all must be within approved containers, such as barbeques.
  • Applies to the issuance of new Burn Permits.

Fire Services also stated that they will not be approving controlled burns during this time.

Farmers are encouraged to exercise extreme caution with combining, as field fires can quickly spread.
