"I think most people will see an insignificant difference in their taxes this year."
WOODSTOCK - A report at the Oxford County budget meeting shows the preliminary figures from the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation or MPAC.
It points to a $333.8 million growth in property assessments in Oxford County in 2017, which included a draft levy increase of 3.4%. Since the report was introduced new information for the County's 2018 Blue Box program and the 2018 conservation draft budgets have modified the County's Draft levy to 3.0%.
Warden David Mayberry says those numbers could still change in the budget discussions.
"Because of the great growth across the County, the actual cost, because their is more homes and businesses to spread the cost over, it will actually work out to almost even, in fact it might even go down a bit, however I reluctant to say that because the budget process is still ongoing. I think the reality is we had great growth in the last year and that growth will absorb the inflationary costs that the County is going to run into, so I think most people will see an insignificant difference in their taxes this year."
As is stands right now a single family detached home valued at $257,000 will pay $11 less in County property taxes in 2018, compared to 2017.
