Olivia Wilde's recent photo in Glamour magazine is another example of celebrities promoting breastfeeding. No wonder, breastfeeding has plenty of benefits.
OXFORD COUNTY- Breastfeeding in public may be considered taboo by some, but one celebrity has taken it a step farther. Actress Olivia Wilde posed for a photo in Glamour magazine of herself breastfeeding her baby. Wilde has said she wanted to empower women that they can have it all.
Supervisor of Health Promotion Rhonda Manning says the benefits extend beyond female empowerment and exemplify a natural part of motherhood.
"Breastfeeding is one of the most important things that a mother can do for her baby. It provides protection to the baby and to the mother against breast cancer, ovarian cancer, bone weakness later in life..."
Long term, Manning says this can lighten the burden on healthcare.
Pre-natal and breastfeeding classes are held monthly and Manning says, "the classes are two hours that offers practical how to information for parents who want to learn about breastfeeding."
In addition to classes, certified lactation consultants are available for one-on-one sessions.
