According to Canadian Blood Services, about 50 percent of Canadians are eligible to donate blood plasma and platelets but only 1 in 81 actually decide to donate.
CANADA - Canadian Blood Services is looking to raise awareness about the importance of donating blood this week.
Blood Donation Week runs from Sunday June 12th to Saturday June 18th..
Community Development Manager Jamie Reichmann says giving blood is a life-saving act and more donors are needed.
"We've issued an immediate call for new and returning blood, platelet and plasma donors across Canada to replenish the national blood supply."
About one in seven people entering a hospital need blood and with just one donation, you can save up to three lives. Reichmann says about 50 percent of Canadians are eligible to donate, but only one in 81 actually donate.
The next blood donation clinic in Woodstock will be held at the Cowan Sportsplex on Thursday, June 23rd.
