A couple of entrepreneurs are looking to open the old Oxford Drive in Movie Theatre in Zorra Township.
WOODSTOCK - You might be able to watch a movie on the big screen this summer in Oxford County after all.
A couple of entrepreneurs are looking to open the old Oxford Drive in Movie Theatre. Recently the Province announced that Drive in movie theatres can operate and Adam Shaw and Angila Peters saw an opportunity to reopen the dormant drive in in Oxford County. In a Facebook post this morning Angila Peters says this is something they have been working on for months.
"We hadn't planned on announcing until we were closer to an opening date. But it got leaked because I think people are excited and need some good news. So it’s true! I can tell you that Adam Shaw has been working on this for months. We've been learning a lot! Opening a drive in during a pandemic is quite the obstacle course. Opening a drive in that has been sitting empty for years is another. We are going to do our best to open safely as soon as we can. We are excited and we would love you to follow the journey to open on our page."
The Facebook page has since been created and here is the first message on it.
Zorra Township Mayor Marcus Ryan recently posted a message about it on Facebook and there is talk that the drive in could be ready for July 1st.
"They are hoping for end of June or beginning of July, which would be fantastic. They have a lot of things to try and get in place to get a business up from an empty piece of property to functioning property and I wish them all the luck in the world. I will absolutely be one of the first people in there to watch a movie. As a resident I have been cooped up like everyone has and it will be great to get out and do something. Also as a mayor of a community to have a brand new business start up in such adverse times, I will be there to cheer them on from that perspective as well."
Ryan says it's a remarkable story and a good news story right now during this pandemic.
"This is a great example of people choosing a positive way forward. So many businesses are struggling right now and finding creative new ways to move forward and this is kind of an extreme example of that, of somebody saying I am going to start a new business at this time."
We have reached out to the owners and are hoping to speak with them soon. The Drive in is located at 684471 Rd 68 Hwy 2 Woodstock, Ontario N4S 7V9.
