BLANDFORD-BLENHEIM - Public safety collided with economics at Blandford Blenheim Township Council and both sides came out winners.
Council heard complaints about the lack of lighting around the new Canada Post boxes located near the Township office. Staff looked around for solutions and found 3 ranging in price from $1,500 to $1,200. Council decided on the lowest price lights that more than surpassed the basic needs to light the area. Mayor Marcus Peterson says staff will install the lights.
"We were planning on one light up there, I know personally I go up there all the time and it is very dark, you have to use your phone to see and even get your key in. It's nice to see, we are going to be able to install two lights instead of one, so it should be pretty bright now."
Peterson says residents should notice the new fixtures shortly.

BLANDFORD - BLENHEIM - Social distancing and isolation has meant a financial break for dog owners in Blandford Blenheim.
Normally anyone who fails to pick a tag for their canine friend by April 30th would face a $10 late fee. Council has decided to suspend the fine. The grace period is all of 2020.

BLANDFORD-BLENHEIM - The Covid-19 pandemic has allowed public works in Blandford Blenheim to get more preparatory work done in Township facilities.
Mayor Mark Peterson says all of the arena painting has been completed and the suspension of seasons has allowed crews to do maintenance work on ball diamonds that would have waited until fall. Peterson says with none of the facilities being used it is making life simpler for staff.
