Construction will begin near the end of this month on a major expansion project on the Unifor Local 88 hall.
INGERSOLL - The Unifor Local 88 in Ingersoll is close to breaking ground to expand its hall.
The expansion will cost $1.58 million dollars and it is expected to begin later this month.
President Joe Graves says the new expansion will have some new features.
"In the new addition we will have four offices, four offices for the executive members, we'll have a board room, we'll have a UAT training room specifically, UAT is Union Awareness Training that we run full time and we also have an office for the UAT trainers. It's sort of a committee room, but it's going to be a library, a union library, expansion to the washrooms and expansion to some of the storage areas we have as well."
Graves says this will benefit members, offering them more availability.
"I think it will benefit members as far as availability. We rent the hall quite often, now some of the offices will not be available for rent but some of the facilities will be expanded for the hall. We will be able to hold better board room meetings. The hall will be open to all the members all the time."
Graves said a plan was put in place a couple years ago to expand the hall, however they lost approximately 500 members and the plan was then put on hold.
Construction will begin near the end of April and the expansion is expected to be completed just before Labour Day weekend.
