Big Brothers Big Sisters Woodstock and District is looking to add new mentors in 2016.
WOODSTOCK - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Woodstock and District is still looking for new mentors in 2016.
Fundraising and Information Coordinator Kristen Ralph says they are grateful for all the recent support both in terms of volunteers and donations, but the need for their services just keeps growing. "Over the last two years we've seen a 55% increase in the children who have gained from our programs. So obviously we need to get those funds into the agency so we can continue to support the children because as the numbers go up, obviously the costs go up."
Ralph says they understand some people might be hesitant to volunteer because of the time commitment, but it might be easier than you think. "We have programs that will fit everybody's schedule and availability because we realize that time is really important now-a-days and it's worth a lot of money. And people don't have a lot of extra time. So we have developed programs that offer children a lot of mentoring opportunities and a lot of new experiences that don't necessarily require as much of a commitment as a big brother or big sister."
"It's honestly going out and having fun," Ralph says. "Playing board games, playing sports, going for hikes - it's just - it's amazing the effect you can have on a child just by doing every day fun things."
