After five terms as Councillor, Dave Beres files for Deputy Mayor in Tillsonburg
TILLSONBURG - Tillsonburg has their first candidate for the Deputy Mayor position.
Dave Beres filed nomination papers late last week .
Beres served 5 terms as a town Councillor before taking on his current role as Mayor after John Lessif stepped down in April.
"When I accepted the nomination for the Interim Mayor in May of this year, Council was aware that I would not be seeking the position in the fall as Mayor. However, as Deputy Mayor, I would be working closely with the new mayor, sharing current issues and contact information as well as facilitating the meetings in his or her absence."
"Interacting through my own personal business, I feel I can bring continuity and experience to the success of the town because I know so many people."
He says the pressing issue for the immediate future is restructuring Tillsonburg Hydro.
"At the June 23 meeting council decided not to sell or merge the utility at the present time. As a Council representative I serve on the Tillsonburg Hydro Board and feel I could bring forward a plan for continued profit while keeping the rates and services to an acceptable level."
Beres says there are also many ongoing projects he is involved with that he would like to see completed.
Beres says in his opinion, maintaining a safe community with lots of services and opportunity is the base for future growth and development.
