Southwestern Public Health started collecting water samples from the beaches in Elgin County on Monday.
ELGIN COUNTY - Southwestern Public Health is warning the public about high levels of bacteria at local beaches.
Public Health inspectors starting sampling on June 21st.
High levels of bacteria, like E.coli, can cause intestinal illness when ingested through contaminated water. Other bacteria can cause infections in the eyes, ears, nose, and throat. Swimming is not recommended if beaches are posted “red” due to bacteria.
The Health Unit dose not collect samples from beaches in Oxford County. They do have samples from Port Burwell, Port Stanley and Rodney.
You can find the status of your favourite beach online here.
