Woodstock Police are advising the public to be safe this Victoria Day weekend.
WOODSTOCK - The holiday weekend is here and Woodstock Police want to remind people to celebrate or travel safely.
Officers will be monitoring the roads, looking for distracted, intoxicated and aggressive drivers.
If you are travelling on the roads, make sure to pay attention and slow down.
Also, do not drive if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If you are planning on drinking this weekend, plan to have a designated driver or alternate ride home.
This weekend will also see boats on the water. Police says boat operators should have a pleasure craft operator card, be sober and ensure passengers are wearing lifejackets and personal flotation devices. They're also encouraged to have all the necessary equipment while out on the water.
For many pool owners opening their pools this weekend, police say parents need to watch their children in and around the area, as accidents can happen in an instant.
And for those who are looking to celebrate the holiday by attending a fireworks show, it is recommended you go to an event that is put on in your community or by a licensed organization. However, if you are hosting fireworks, make sure explosives are kept far away from children and they are set in an open area downwind where people are watching.
