Retired farmer, Jim Hayes feels his past political experiences would be an asset for Tillsonburg Town Council.

TILLSONBURG -- Former South-West Oxford Mayor, Jim Hayes is looking to gain a councillor's seat on Tillsonburg Council.

Hayes, who was also a Councillor and Deputy Mayor with South-West Oxford over his 16 years with council has made the move to Tillsonburg after retiring from farming.  "I've always been interested in politics and I've been a property owner of business and commercial properties in Tillsonburg for 25 years and so I've always been concerned how tax dollars are spent in Tillsonburg.  I feel with my experience and my business in the past that I think I could probably be an asset to Tillsonburg Council."

Hayes highlighted what he sees as a priority for the Town Council in the upcoming term.  "With the provincial cutbacks all the time it's going to be difficult to not keep taxes in line.  We have less dollars to work with and I think that's one of my priorities, that we have to make sure that we can use the dollars to the best advantage."

Hayes says being a common-sense kind of person and decision maker, whether it pleases everyone or not, would also be assets he could bring to council.
