The Woodstock Fire Department is encouraging people to have a plan as they honour emergency preparedness week.
It's Emergency Preparedness week in Ontario and our local fire department wants to make sure you and your family are ready for any potential disaster.
Whether it's a fire, flood, tornado or any other type of natural disaster one of the most important things to have is a plan. Public information Coordinator with the Woodstock Fire Department Lisa Woods says it is a good idea to sit down with your family and make sure everyone knows where all the emergency exits are in the home and where you will meet in case you get separated in an emergency. She adds another must for every household is a 72 hour emergency preparedness kit. This should include water, non perishable food, enough to last you for three days, a manual can opener blankets, cash, medication readily available, batteries, first aid kit, candles, matches, whistle, zip lock bag to keep things dry and a battery or crank radio. She adds if you have young children make sure to include some extra diapers and baby food and if you have pets make sure you have some food for them as well.
