City Council give the thumbs up to zoning change for vacant Catholic school
You will soon have another option when it comes to buying furniture in the City.
Council approved a zoning bylaw amendment Thursday night which would see a furniture store move into the former St Rita's Catholic School located at 908 Dundas Street.
City Planner Ron Versteegen says that while the Downtown Woodstock BIA cited concern over sufficient commercial space already in the City with rezoning of the school not being warranted, Versteegan says under the underlying land use designation of Service Commercial, a furniture store would already be permitted.
He also states the property meets the remaining Official Plan policies in terms of compatibility with neighbouring properties and potential traffic impacts.
Versteegen told council the application was circulated twice with no comments received from the public against the application.
The proponent, Dennis Simpson of Innerkip, now plans to purchase the facility from the London District Catholic School Board and have the furniture store ready by around April.
