Norfolk County has declared Friday the 13th a non-event due to COVID-19, but there will still be a heavy police presence in Port Dover today.
PORT DOVER - Friday the 13th has been declared a non-event in Norfolk County, but some people may still choose to go to Port Dover anyway.
Ed Sanchuk with Norfolk OPP is encouraging everyone to drive safe today.
"For all of our motorcycle enthusiasts coming down here, please make sure that you drive safely. To all of the motoring public, please make be aware that there are motorcyclists on our roadway and make sure everyone gets home safe to their families."
Sanchuk says you'll be able to spot lots of Norfolk OPP officers in Port Dover today.
"You will see an increased police presence in Port Dover so that police will respond to any calls for service that may arise or any traffic issues that come to our attention. If you are coming to Port Dover, please make sure that you act in a safe, mature and responsible manner. But more importantly make some great memories, nothing that's going to be marred by a tragedy, and get home safe to your family."
Norfolk County Council declared Friday the 13th a non-event due to COVID-19 earlier this summer, which means there should be no entertainment, vendors or scheduled events in order to encourage people to stay home.
If you still decide to go to Port Dover, you may run into a few road closures. Officials would also like you to wear a mask, wash your hands regularly and practice physical distancing.
