Woodstock Police report an increase in collisions for 2018.
WOODSTOCK - Motor Vehicle collisions have increased in Woodstock.
Woodstock Police has determined that Woodstock has had 464 collisions from January 1st to June 30th.
This is a 10.2% increase from last year.
The top five intersections with reportable collisions are:
1. Dundas Street at Springbank Avenue
2. Peel Street at Wilson Street
3. Dundas Street at Clarke Street North
4. Henry Street at Wilson Street
5. Juliana Drive at Montclair Avenue
Constable Josh Coates says a reason for the change could be the new additions to Woodstock.
"The cause with respect to some of these intersections could be a change in the dynamics of Woodstock. Picture Juliana Drive at Montclair, that area has been built up with numerous businesses being added to that area so a lot more traffic flow."
47 of the collisions had a reported injury and one had a fatality.
Coates says the best way to keep safe, is to keep alert while driving.
"The best way to improve these numbers is for drivers to be sure that they're paying attention while driving. Put down your phones, mind your speed and always be on the lookout for other drivers. You may be confident in your driving abilities, but you never know what the person around you is going to do. So the best way to be a good driver is to be a defensive driver and always keep an eye for somebody else."
