Millions of Ontarians will receive an Alert Ready notification on their smartphones and tablets Monday afternoon.
OXFORD COUNTY - Millions of cellphones and tablets will sound off next week, during a test of a new wireless Alert Ready system.
The province wide test run will take place at 1:55pm on Monday afternoon. Ontario's Fire Marshall and Chief of Emergency Management, Ross Nichols says an alarm will sound and you'll also receive a text message.
"It will be identified as a test, if it were to be a real event you would learn what the nature of the emergency was and you will be provided with instructions on what to do and how to keep yourself and your family safe."
Alert Ready notifies the public in threat to life situations; including fires, tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes, drinking water contaminations and amber alerts.
Nichols says you should visit the Alert Ready website for more information.
"It's a great website that will give you information, not just on the types of alerts you might receive and let you hear a sample of the alert tone but it will also tell you if your phone is compatible. You can plug in your service provider and the model of your phone and you'll learn whether or not you'll be able to get those alerts."
Alert Ready also issues warnings over television and radio broadcasts.
