ADI and TDMH Extend a Big Thanks to Fanshawe College

Fanshawe College donated 26 hospital beds and other essential patient care equipment at the start of the pandemic to the hospitals in Ingersoll and Tillsonburg.

INGERSOLL/TILLSONBURG - Alexandra Hospital in Ingersoll and Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital want to give a huge thank you to Fanshawe College.

The College has donated essential patient care equipment to both hospitals including hospital beds, over-bed tables and other medical equipment to support the hospitals in our preparation for a potential COVID-19 surge.

President and CEO of both hospitals Sandy Jansen explains why they needed these donations. 

“Hospitals across Ontario were asked to quickly increase capacity to accept patients in anticipation of the COVID-19 crisis. Fanshawe provided 26 hospital beds and other equipment needed for patient care at no cost. They have loaned the hospitals everything we needed to open up many new hospital rooms, and they did this in record time." 

As university and college programs moved to virtual models of teaching across Ontario, classroom equipment was not being used. Equipment from Fanshawe’s nursing and personal support worker (PSW) programs were moved to the hospitals in late March, and several new rooms were created by the maintenance, housekeeping and clinical staff at AHI and TDMH. Jansen adds they want to give Fanshawe College a sincere thank you. 

“We are thankful that to date we have not needed to use this extra capacity at our hospitals, but also very relieved
to know that if we needed to, we are ready. A big thanks to Fanshawe College.”
