The London District Catholic School Board has the green light for an addition to St. Michael's Catholic School.
WOODSTOCK - Changes are on the horizon for St. Michael's Catholic School in Woodstock.
The London District Catholic School Board has received the green light from the Ford Government to issue a tender for a new addition. It's going to create 230 new elementary spaces, plus 88 new licensed child care spaces. MPP for Oxford, Ernie Hardeman, shares his thoughts about the additional money.
"The funding for a new addition at St. Michael’s Catholic School in Woodstock is great news for our community. Through this investment, we’re creating opportunities for students to thrive today and well into the future."
Minister of Education, Paul Calandra, knows supporting the addition is key to student success.
"Our government is focused on supporting students, teachers and parents while ensuring school boards are equipping our students with the tools they need to succeed. Once completed, this project will offer an inspiring learning environment that helps students prepare for the jobs of tomorrow. Our government will continue to provide the resources students need for ultimate achievement."
Director of Education with LDCSB, Vince Romeo, is excited about the news.
"We are thrilled to be able to expand St. Michael’s school and add a much-needed daycare into a region that is experiencing significant residential development. Our schools in Woodstock are bursting with students, so this addition will relieve some of that pressure and also let us welcome students into the LDCSB family."
It's a $18.2-million investment, which also includes $7.1-million in additional funding. The money is part of the province's commitment to give back close to $23-billion to support school construction, renewal and improvement over 10 years.
