OXFORD COUNTY - The extreme cold is expected to last all week in Oxford County.
Temperatures will be even colder on Thursday and Friday with daytime highs of minus 15 and minus 16 expected. Meteorologist with Environment Canada Geoff Coulson says the entire country has been feeling the cold for over a week now.
"We go back to Boxing Day, across much of South Western Ontario when the temperatures started to plummet, normally we can get cold snaps this time of year, it is the winter after all but it is rare to have one last this long with the type of temperatures we have been getting."
The cold snap should subside a bit early next week, however we are expected to get another cold snap soon. Coulson says the entire country is feeling the freeze.
"The other thing noteworthy about this particular cold snap, is this is not just happening in Ontario, we are seeing very cold temperatures across the Prairies, Quebec, the Maritimes and into the United States."
The cold could put anyone at risk at getting frost bite or hypothermia.
Pet owners are also being advised to limit the amount of time their pet spends outdoors; if it's too cold for you it's too cold for your furry friend.
