Ministry of Environment called in to clean up mess on Highway 401 following multiple collisions
Eight people have been taken to hospital following multiple collisions in the westbound lanes of Highway 401.
According to Oxford OPP, the initial collision happened just after 9 this morning east of the Township Road 8 overpass. Two tractor trailers and a car collided which blocked all of the lanes. Two chain reaction collisions happened shortly after which involved another 19 vehicles.
Of the eight sent to hospital, two are listed in serious condition.
The Ministry of Environment is on the scene to clean up a large diesel fuel spill and the highway is expected to remain closed from Cedar Creek Road to Oxford Road 29 until that is complete.
No timeline has been given.
