A "housewarming" party of sorts along with a 50 years of celebrations for United Way Oxford
WOODSTOCK -- The United Way Oxford have a lot to celebrate right now.
Not only are they marking 50 years of servicing Oxford County, they are also moving into their new location in downtown Woodstock.
Executive Director Kelly Gilson says the they are excited to take over the former Art Gallery building on Hunter Street and feel it will service the organization and community well. "First off a lot of the partners that we work with are certainly located in the core area, not all but many so there's some convenience factor there. But I think it is just a very visible space for us and so much more traffic, better visibility -- I think there's a better awareness piece."
Gilson highlights that without the assistance of the City of Woodstock, along with a number of other organizations, their move into the new location wouldn't be possible and they are extremely grateful for everyone's assistance.
The United Way Oxford celebrated 50 years in the community on March 19, 2014. The organization is hosting an Open House - Strawberry Social Tuesday, June 24th from 2:00 - 4:30 pm at their new location, 447 Hunter Street. "The whole concept of Strawberry Social is because they were developed at a time to bring people together and create that sense of belonging and we think that's what we want to do in our new neighbourhood. So we're looking for people that have history with us over our 50 years to please come out. We've reached out to as many as we can find but there are so many others that we may not be aware of. We really want the community to come out and support."
Following the Open House, they will host the AGM (Annual General Meeting) Reception where they will recognize the Campaign Chairs and Board Presidents from the past 50 years. The AGM is set to run from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
