A Zumba fundraiser brought in over $10,000 to the Andrew Stoddart Legacy.
WOODSTOCK - Over $10,000 was raised at a Zumba fundraiser in the memory of 15 year old Andrew Stoddart who died while playing soccer in Kintore this past May.
Andrews life may have been saved if the soccer field had an Automated External Defibrillator. His family has started Andrews legacy where they try to raise funds to get AED's placed at sporting venues across Ontario.
It was a packed house at the Goff Hall last Thursday as people enjoyed small sessions on how to use AED's properly to save someone's life, a silent auction and a family Zumba class for $5. 115 local businesses helped by donating items to the silent auction and the event had a great response from the community. Zumba Instructor for Woodstock Health and Fitness Marguerita Hagedorn hosted the latest fundraiser and says they were blown away by the support.
"We raised $7,300 that evening and right before the event I received a call from Carmeuse Lime in Beachville and they are offering one AED unit plus the case and accessories, so with that and the funds raised that night we raised over $10,000.
Enough funds were raised to have 4 and 1/2 AED's with one of them being place in Woodstock and the others will be determined by the Stoddart Foundation and Hagedorn says they are going to make sure the AED's are placed in the areas that need them the most.
"We are looking at one AED going into the Woodstock area and the other AED's will be placed based on a decision from the Stoddart foundation and the Board of Health so we can put them in an area where they are most needed."
