Mayor of Zorra Township Marcus Ryan was a part of a delegation with the Ministry of Environment Conservation and Parks during the ROMA Conference in Toronto.
OXFORD COUNTY - Zorra Township were a part of a delegation while at the ROMA Conference in Toronto.
Mayor Marcus Ryan says they discussed with the Ministry of Environment Conservation and Parks on the upcoming Environmental Assessment from Walker Environmental Group.
"It really was to touch base, there has not been a lot of developments. Walker's scientists have been preparing their proposed draft EA so that's not been visible to us until they publish it in a few weeks time."
He adds there wasn't any development to talk about at this time, other than to learn where the Ministry was in their process.
He says they explained to the Ministry not only where the Township was in their process, but where the Joint Municipal Coordinating Committee was too. The Committee consists of Zorra Township, Ingersoll, South-West Oxford and Oxford County.
Mayor Ryan says the Township looks forward to reviewing Walker's proposal.
"We've hired an excellent peer review team of scientists to do our own review. What Walker's going to submit to the Ministry of Environment, who will also to do their own review, and that's all that we're really looking for at this point."
He adds residents from communities in Ingersoll and Oxford County will have three opportunities to review the EA as well.
The EA, expected to be released next month, is a proposed landfill with 17 million tonnes of capacity in Zorra. If it were to be approved, it would accept solid non-hazardous waste that's created in Ontario.
