Zorra Township Council will discuss a motion to lower it's flags in honour of the 215 bodies of children recently discovered at the site of an old residential school in BC.
ZORRA TOWNSHIP - A motion is coming to Zorra Township council to lower the flags in recognition of the 215 children, whose bodies were recently discovered at a former residential school in Kamloops, British Columbia.
The flags are already flying at half mast at most locations in Canada right now, including the City of Woodstock and Oxford County.
Mayor Marcus Ryan explains why this isn't happening yet in Zorra.
"Firstly, I would say I think it is the right thing to do, that those municipalities and all levels of Government who have done it. Zorra Township has a pre-existing policy, that says under what circumstances the flags can be lowered to half mast and this is not one of those. So right now, policy says, it can be lowered for this and I want the flags to be lowered for this, so I am asking for an exception to the policy and lower them."
Ryan says the motion is to lower the flags for 215 hours, one hour for each child who died. It works out to about nine days and you can read the entire motion from the Mayor below:
