In an attempt to quash dangerous driving near schools zones Zorra Township's mayor is looking into photo radar.
The Mayor of Zorra Township is pushing for photo radar systems in school zones and designated safety zones.
Bill 65, also known as the Safer School Zones Act, is allowing Ontario municipalities to use the technology to catch speeders in those areas.
In a press release, Margaret Lupton explains why she would love to have this technology in place by September 2017.
"I have been frustrated for years with speeders in Zorra Township, especially those who go racing passed our schools. Maybe this will finally slow them down."
The act also makes it easier for municipalities for opt in for red light camera technology and create lower speed limits for collision prone areas.
The only problem is the Automatic Speed Enforcement Technology could cost upwards of $250,000. Lupton is going to discuss sharing a unit with other Oxford County municipalities.
"I am going to talk to my counterparts at Oxford County and see if it makes sense to purchase a unit and move it around. My research has shown me they are doing this in some parts of the United States. In fact in some jurisdictions that share equipment, they have set up boxes so people do not know if the radar is there."
