Zoning Change Allows for More Residential Development

City Council approved a developer's request to change a zone near Ridgewood Drive for residential units.

WOODSTOCK - More homes will be built Woodstock's north end.

City Council approved a zone change at their latest meeting on the east side of Highway 59 past Ridgewood Drive that will allow a developer to build new units. Mayor of Woodstock Trevor Birtch says the need for more housing in the Friendly City helped to drive the decision. "That had been originally slated for commercial, and with the high demand for residential the developer came forward with a proposal to zone it back to residential. There will be six new semi-units going in on that site that can make nice starter homes for families in the community." 

"This is one of those areas where we know that growth of Woodstock going forward we will have a lot more intensification within the classical area of the city," Birtch says. "We approved that the Mayor can enter into discussions with Southwest-Oxford; so in the new year we will be sitting down and going over the maps with Southwest Oxford." Council also appointed Councillor Lauder and Poetter to a negotiation committee with South-West Oxford to discuss boundary adjustments in the new year.

Mayor Birtch says as the housing needs in Woodstock continue to grow, the boundaries of the Friendly City might have to do the same. "It is one of the areas, I think, where people want to live close to where they work, and this really speaks highly with what Woodstock has to offer. We are looking at two possible expansions coming up in the future, and it is discussions that are all open to the public - that is another new thing for Woodstock."
