Youth Robotics Challenge

Youth in the area have been hard at work preparing for the 12th annual Oxford Invitational Youth Robotics Challenge.

OXFORD COUNTY - The 12th annual Oxford Invitational Youth Robotics Challenge is coming back to Goff Hall.

Youth as young as Grade 7 and as old as Grade 12 have built their own sorting robots using Lego Mindstorms technology.

Development Officer Brad Hammond says each team must also submit a video of their robot in action and hand in written and verbal proposals on Tuesday.

"The judges are looking to make sure that it wasn't a project that was put together the night before and they're looking to see that everyone on the team participated."

Hammond explains what's at stake.

"Every team gets a plaque. The plaques have a seal on them based on whether they receive platinum, gold, silver or what not. The team gets that as well as bragging rights. If a team competes successfully the school gets to keep the Lego robotic kit which has a value of about $700 and goes back into the classroom as a classroom resource."

The competition will kick off at 2pm and the winners will be announced at 4:30pm.
