A public school took home the top prize at this years Oxford Invitational Youth Robotics Challenge.
WOODSTOCK - It was an impressive turn out at the 12th annual Oxford Invitational Youth Robotics Challenge.
19 teams from in and around Oxford County designed sorting robots using Lego Mindstorm technology.
Joel Van Bynen is the Lab Operations Manager for the Faculty of Technology at Fanshawe College in London. He helped judge the competition at Goff Hall.
"It's impressive to see, given the same problem each team solves it way differently. The variety of solution in here is incredible and the way the kids see a problem is also way different."
Each team completed the task but in the end only one could take home the platinum level prize; and that team was Algonquin Public School.
Grade 8 student Connor Miller says it took about two weeks to design their award winning robot.
"We went through so many different designs but then we sat down and we drew this design out on a giant white board. We built it, we tested it, it worked and it won us the platinum medal."
The challenge encourages youth think about pursuing a career in skilled trade, something Miller says he will definitely consider in his high school years.
