Drug use, addiction and overdoses continues to be a serious issue in Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - Addiction and drug use continues to be a serious problem everywhere in the world and we certainly are not exempt in Woodstock
We can see the issues happening in front of us and drug use is especially visible in the downtown core right now, however drug use is also something that is happening behind closed doors and it is not always the people you would suspect. Woodstock Police continue to respond to numerous 9-1-1 calls for overdoses.
They are asking the public to become familiar with the signs of an overdose and consider accessing a free Naloxone kit from a local pharmacy. It could save a life.
In case of overdose:
- Call 911
- Give naloxone if an opioid overdose is suspected (it may take more than one dose)
- Stay with and assist the person until paramedics arrive
- The person should go to the hospital with the paramedics for further treatment
The WPS has shared some information on what signs to watch out for in an overdose.
They include slow, weak or no breathing, drowsiness or difficulty staying awake, can't be woken up, choking, gurgling or snoring sounds, blue lips or dizziness.
Police say by knowing the signs, you can save a life.
