World no Tobacco day marks the 10th anniversary of the Smoke Free Ontario Act.
OXFORD COUNTY - World no Tobacco Day marks the 10th anniversary of the Smoke Free Ontario Act.
Gemma Urbani, Tobacco Control Coordinator for Oxford County Public Health and Emergency Services says they will be celebrating.
"Eight other health units that make up our nine Southwest area network. There will be a big event in London today."
Urbani says quitting smoking can be challenging.
"I think quitting smoking is one of the most difficult things people can do. I don't think quitting has gotten easier. What has changed is, there has been more restrictions of where people can smoke and that has led to more people quitting."
There are three clinics in Oxford County that offer advice about quitting smoking, they are in Ingersoll, Woodstock, and Tillsonburg.
Urbani says they are looking at other ways to discourage smoking, including plain packaging.
"What that is, is basically removing all graphics, logos and brand colours from the tobacco packages and having them all a standard shape and size. Which would eliminate the promotion of specific brands."
Urbani says the Smoke Free Ontario Act has several successful initiatives.
