Years of effort are paying off for Woodstock City Council, with the purchase of new land.
WOODSTOCK- Woodstock City Council and the Upper Thames Conservation Board have come to an agreement regarding the purchase of land near the Pittock dam.
Mayor Trevor Birtch was very excited for what this mean for the city.
"More people will be able to come and enjoy that great piece of nature, and more young people will be educated. There is a small price tag we are purchasing a strip of land between the existing park camp ground on the north shore and the rail line."
It will cost $445,000 to purchase the land, it will be turned into a walking trail for all to enjoy and will also give people access to the north shore so people will be able to canoe and kayak.
Burch continues to explain the improvements being made.
"They have existing washrooms that the city will bring up to accessibility standards to make sure that everyone can enjoy the trails and the activities on the north shore."
The project has been in the works since 2015 and should be open the public in 2019.
