120 calls have been placed to the Woodstock Police Detachment within a span of 24 hours that are all similar in nature.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police are warning residents about a phone scam.
Over the past 24 hours, 120 calls have been placed to the police service that seem to all be consistent with one another. You will be contacted by an unknown person claiming to work from the Canadian Revenue Agency. The employee warns residents that police are on standby if personal information is not provided, and that you are the focus of an investigation with Federal charges on the line.
The Woodstock Police Service would like to remind the public to never hand over personal information over the phone to someone you don't know. The calls may vary slightly but their main goal is to steal money from you. Banks will never ask personal information over the internet or by phone. If you have been a victim of fraud you are being urged to contact the police immediately to ensure no one else falls for the scam.
To report similar incidents contact Woodstock Police Service at 519-537-2323 or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center at 1-888-495-8501 www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca
