Most of the collisions in Woodstock last year happened during nice weather on Juliana/Norwich Ave, Dundas/Huron and Dundas/Springbank.
WOODSTOCK - Collisions were down in the Friendly City in 2017.
Woodstock Police have released the Motor Vehicle Collisions Annual Report for 2017. Last year police responded to 855 collisions in Woodstock, compared to 870 in 2016. Only one fatal injury was recorded last year and 91 people were injured.
The statistics show:
- That most collisions in the City occurred in May and December, and on Tuesdays and Fridays.
- Most collisions occurred between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
- 661 collisions occurred when the weather was good and the roadways were dry.
- Two vehicle collisions at intersections top the impact stats.
- The top three accident intersection are Juliana/Norwich Ave, Dundas/Huron and Dundas/Springbank
- 3 very serious collisions involving motorcycles.
- 91 people sustained injuries.
- 1 fatal Injury.
- 145 drivers were inattentive.
- 18 drivers had consumed alcohol or drugs.
Deputy Chief Darren Sweazey says the biggest key with collisions is driver education.
"We are pleased with the decrease in collisions in 2017. The Woodstock Police Service would like to see an even bigger decrease in 2018. We will continue to focus our efforts in the education of drivers and have officers enforce speeding, impaired driving, aggressive driving and distracted driving."
