Woodstock Mayor Trevor Birtch will not be allowed to attend WPS board meetings while he is being investigated by the Ontario Civilian Police Commission.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Mayor Trevor Birtch will no longer participate in Woodstock Police Services Board meetings.
The decision was made at a special meeting of the board on Monday. Chair Ken Whiteford says the Board received legal advice and advice from the Ministry of the Solicitor General and decided to refer the matter to the Ontario Civilian Police Commission.
"They are set up to investigate these kinds of situations, where members of the police board, there integrity has been questioned in some way shape or form and that is what the Board has decided to do. Once that process is initiated, the member that is under investigation, can no longer attend board meetings."
This means Trevor Birtch will not be allowed to attend WPS board meetings while the investigation is ongoing Ontario Civilian Police Commission. Whiteford did confirm that Birtch was at the meeting on Monday and stated his case to the board. The meeting was not filmed and we do not know what he said.
Trevor Birtch has not made any public statements since the news of his charges. He is charged with assault, sexual assault and sexual assault with choking.
