Elgin County OPP used a spike belt to stop a stolen vehicle on Wednesday night, however the driver kept going before finally coming to a rest near Port Rowan.
PORT BURWELL - A 26 year old man from Woodstock was arrested near Port Rowan on Wednesday night.
Elgin County OPP were called to Victoria Street in Port Burwell about a break and enter at home around 8:30 p.m. Officers were able to locate a vehicle associated to the incident on Plank Road near Calton Line.
The vehicle failed to stop for police, and the OPP had to use a spike belt. Even with deflated tires, the driver continued to head east towards Norfolk County on Eden Line.
Norfolk OPP officers located the vehicle on Highway 59 north of Port Rowan. Once again the man failed to stop for police, finally coming to a stop in a wooded area after losing its rear tire. The vehicle had been reported stolen from Stratford Ontario.
Jacob McGilveary was arrested and is facing the following charges.
The vehicle failed to stop for police on Plank Road. An Elgin County OPP officer was able to successfully use a tire deflation device (spike belt). The vehicle then continued on and was last seen heading east towards Norfolk County on Eden Line.
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Break and enter
- Trespassing at night
- Fail to comply with release order
The accused was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice Simcoe on February 5, 2020.
The investigation is continuing as other suspects are still outstanding.
