Woodstock Considers AED’s in Schools.

Woodstock City Council will discuss putting AED’s in schools at their next meeting.

WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Council is being asked to support an initiative to have AED's in every single school in Ontario.

Councillor Jerry Acchione has tabled a motion asking council to send a formal request to the Premier and Minister of Education. He tells Heart FM the tragic story of Andrew Stoddart who died while playing soccer in Kintore is one of the reasons he tabled this motion.

"Andrew Stoddart is a tragic story where he possibly could have been saved by an AED and if we can do something so simple, especially when there is no real cost involved to the school boards why wouldn't we go ahead and support it."

Council will debate the motion at their next council meeting.

AED's are used to treat sudden cardiac arrest and have been proven to be life saving during the waiting time period for emergency services.

The push is already on to make AED's mandatory at every school in the Thames Valley District School Board.

Trustee Jake Skinner has tabled a proposal to budget for putting an AED in every elementary and every high school in the TVDSB.
