Speeding continues to be a concern for residents in the Friendly City, as Woodstock City council will be exploring options on lowering it. Council is looking at potential changes like stop signs and temporary speed limit signs.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City council are looking at reducing the speed limits on George Street and in other areas in the Friendly City.
This comes after a petition was brought to council from a resident on Thursday night's meeting.
Mayor Trevor Birtch says they'll be exploring ideas to keep the community safer.
"We also may be putting out some temporary speed signs just so drivers can remember, especially as we finish some of these repaving and construction projects, the roads are very smooth and new and your speed can get out of control without you even knowing sometimes. So it's just a good time to have a friendly reminder to slow down."
Council's engineering department has been requested to come up with ways to lower the speed limit on George Street, which is being asked to be reduced to 40 km an hour.
"Looking at the George Street concern, we've looked into last year. We've had increased police presence, we've had speed censors out there so that we can properly target the individuals that are speeding in this one section of road where there's five blocks without a stop sign. Residents have come back again with those concerns and with a petition and a great delegation, and staff has looked into it."
He says they are looking at other areas too like Huron Street and Wellington Street.
Mayor Birtch says the engineering department will prepare a report and bring it back to council at a later date.
