There will be a pop up park set up on Graham Street on August 6th during Streetfest.
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock will be participating in the Green Street Challenge during Streetfest this year! There will be sod laid on the road on Graham Street and people will be able to enjoy a mini park from 9am til 9pm on August 6th.
Reta Horan, Assistant Supervisor of Parks and Rec says other communities across the province have participated in the Green Street Challenge over the years.
"Picton Ontario has done the Green Street Challenge for five years now and every year they get more people involved, there are more community members and landscape companies that want to get involved every year. They have a better turn out every year too, just people outdoors playing and having fun in their park for the day."
While the park is open there will be an outdoor Zumba class people can participate in. There will also be an ultimate frisbee game.
Horan explains why Woodstock decided to participate in the Green Street Challenge.
"Recent studies have shown that Canadian kids spend 7.5 hours a day in front of screens, so we can tell that indoor entertainment is replacing outdoor activity and we really want to bring focus to that and show people that Woodstock has a lot of great recreational opportunities for them."
The Green Street Challenge is a movement created by Come Alive Outside and is meant to inspire people to explore the outdoors.
