Woodstock Police reminding drivers to be prepared for weather conditions and poor roads.
WOODSTOCK -- Snowfall has been wreaking havoc on the local roads this (Friday) morning.
Woodstock Police have responded to a few calls this morning and the OPP are reporting poor conditions on both the 401 and 403 saying they have dealt with a number collision on both highways.
City Police Chief Rod Freeman says motorists need to adjust their driving habits according the weather conditions and if someone is in a potentially dangerous situation, Rod recommends "take their foot off the gas, very, very gently apply the brake so that they don't lock up the wheels and go into a skid situation. First and foremost, be proactive. Don't put yourself in a position like that in the first place; leave a lot of stopping distance between you and the vehicle in front, keep your speed low - watch for those patches of ice or snow covered roadways where you know the traction is not going to be as good as it should be. Just drive very carefully, being very aware of the other drivers on the road."
Freeman highlights that we have three to four months of this weather to deal with so drivers need to be ready for poor road conditions and should have winter tires on their vehicle.
For people who may unfortunately experience a collision that causes minor damages, they can visit the Collision Reporting Centre at the Woodstock Police Department which is open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday to Friday.
