It's all about girls hockey in the Friendly City this weekend.
The Woodstock Wildcats are hosting their 18th Annual Girls Hockey tournament this weekend.
58 teams, including Chatham, London, Brantford, Aurora and Sudbury have travelled to the Friendly City to compete in the tournament.
Wildcats President, Dan Dafoe says it's a win-win for the city and the hockey association. "The hotels are full so we've actually had teams that had to stay in Brantford because the hotels here are full. And so the restaurants probably benefit from it and the whole community probably does with the stores and everything else too I would imagine. And it is our biggest fundraiser."
All levels of girls hockey are competing in the tournament; Novice, Atom, PeeWee, Bantam, Midget and Senior. The finals will wrap up the tourney late Sunday afternoon.
The games are taking place at the Community Complex and Civic Arena. The public is welcomed to come check out the action which is free. There's also a silent auction with a number of items to bid on including Leafs and Raptors tickets.
Dafoe points out that this tournament wouldn't be possible without the help of many people. "I want to thank all the parents and volunteers that come out because without them we couldn't do it. My wife Kieren, she's been phenomenal with the work she's had to put in to this and Tim Jentz, they've been the catalyst of this whole thing. Tom Dagenais setting up the tournament, everybody, we couldn't do it without the volunteers for sure."
